History:
He grew up in the Earth Nation capitol, Ba Sing Se. His mother died when he was 5, and his father died a few years after that. He was sent to live with a close friend of his father's, who taught Kirlan how to earth bend. Kirlan was a natural, as his teacher said. Kirlan was ever eager to learn more about earth bending. He was always wanting to practice. Except when it was time to eat. He loved eating, and he would eat pretty much anything, if it was edible.

When he turned 18, Kirlan decided to try out his bending skills in the real world. He went out into the area surrouning the city. His mentor went with him, to see how it went. He accidentally disturbed a badgermole, which attacked him because of it. He tried to fight back, but was unsuccessful. If it wasn't for his mentor, he would be dead. He knew now that he had much to learn, and he devoted himself even more to the practice of earth bending. A few years later, Kirlan discovered that he was talented in the use of the earth bending power called Quicksand. He was able to defeat his master with this, immobilizing him, then he sent really small chunks of earth at him. He had finally bested his master.

After besting his master, he was allowed to go out into the world and do whatever he wanted. So, he decided to join a tournament that was being hosted by the Earth King. He signed up, and began training with his pld mentor, so that he would have a better chance of winning. After a 3 weeks of tough training, the Tournament had finally come. Kirlan was both excited and nervous. During the Tourney, Kirlan won 7 out of 8 matches. He came in second place. The one person who had beat him, soon became one of Kirlan's best friends.
